Any of you in driving range interested in some pure juvenile American Dominiques? They are Voter strain, not hatchery stock, and have been in my possession for about a decade. I have to down size owing to family health issues. Sex ratio this round skewed more towards males. Will be between 15...
I am also letting down color slide at expense of hatch rate and vigor as well. If my chicks were run through a typical sexing procedure based on down, then mine would appear to have too few females. I am good with just looking at feet now.
Only one of my American Dominiques actually being used as a broody. Balance of chicks are hatched with incubator.
I hope to get a solid 80 chicks on ground before hatching done. Probably will not cull a single pullet.
Thanks. I need to find some younger and likely long-term interested parties that will take over the bloodline so it is not lost to the backyard dead enders pool.
Owing to health issues in the family, I am going to greatly reduce the number of chickens I have to control feed cost. My American Dominiques are going to be a big component of what is downsized. The are more than 75% based on the Voter Strain and their descendents have done well at show in...
I have an old cock and a old hen, both at least 4 years of age molting now. Cock has yet to loose his tail feathers. It is some I have come to accept as normal in older doms. Games of similar age and older keep to typical schedule.
It is an ongoing effort. Very close to point where emphasis will switch to getting birds to breed true, without inbreeding too much. I think the American Dominique strains have been degraded a bit by multiple genetic bottlenecks imposed by breeders.
Strain I am developing founded from American Dominique )voter strain mostly) and four game chickens. Selected for characteristics present prior to infusion of black java of all American Dominique of today.
Yes, but I cannot tell by looking at a hen what type of comb her sons will have. As offensive as the big combs are, they are a better indicator of overall health than the tight and smooth combs like the better Voter-line birds have.

Football team hanging out in bachelor pad prepping ground for gardening.
Getting butts kicked by game rooster.
Missouri Dominque cockerel #1 to be bred in 2019. Good 7 lbs.
We call these guys the football team. Current job is getting ground ready for being a garden next year. They also help dogs eat a deer carcass. They are kind of pretty when roaming the front yard.
No. Last to be eaten. They are kept in a movable 10 x 10 pen to prep new ground for being a garden next year. They get free-range time in yard where I can follow their habits related to consumption of greens when outside. They are also the birds used to test new dog in training. Do not want...
