You did well! I think you will enjoy the taste and texture both. A 6-8 week old bird, to me, just does not taste "chickeny" enough for me, add a few weeks it has a better texture and taste..IMHO.

A Bert is the king or Heir apparent to the Toad Kingship. This is OJ, He was a Bert, until he bit the leg that fed him. He is now OJ. He is a baby here. They dress out at a little over 15 pounds.

The Bird in the Smoker is a Toad. It is not a Bert. Smoking a Bert would be a High Crime. They are the King Bird.... There is a whole legal process that we have to go through to smoke a Bert. There is a Bird on Death row now that use to be a Bert. It requires the Bert to commit at least one...

I have to agree with the great primitive paper on this. Anything works when trying to find something to breed with it. However, you want to try and find something more meat type. Look for a meat breed from the 50, or 60's when sustainability was still bred into them. Between the large...

I think that is a cross, I do not recall what it is to make it. Half the cross is a polish and the other half is either Pea or Single comb. @jerryse had told me how to make those a year or so ago.

Totally agree. Meat birds can be hard for even a farm kid like me.... They are so friendly and likable. Makes processing them hard.

I have thought about doing this: Myself if I was breeding and the ratio one way or the other was consistently skewed in a direction I disliked I would start trying to isolate hens to collect and mark eggs to track who was producing what.. spreadsheet time, raw data collection time... despite my...

Let me say with all due respect and having heard this before.... Hogwash.... The sex is determined by the hen, some hens produce more boys some more girls.. Just lke some men have all sons and some have all daughters... Period... Sorry to be blunt, (well not really) but this non-science...

They might try but, it is not likely to be successful..You would need him to stay around until the hens lay eggs and not pullet eggs...and by then he will be crowing like a banshee.
