I bought my eggs on ebay & had a crazy hatch rate (Bought 12, was sent 18 & 17 hatched). Though they were from a seller in the same state. In general, all of the eggs I've gotten on ebay even from far away all had a 60-90% hatch rate. Though I have always bought the more expensive rarer...

My roo only made it to 7 months old, but he was really sweet. He would let you come over and pet him and wasn't aggressive or anything. Gorgeous bird. Unfortunately he had to go to freezer camp. I couldn't have any parts of that, had to put it all on DH. We live in town & can't keep roosters...

False alarm! I thought my nearly 7 month old Lav Orps were laying, but it turns out it's really my 3 1/2 month old Red Sex Link! No wonder the eggs aren't fertile, she's still a tiny little thing. My Marans' eggs that are the same age as the Lav Orp have the bulls eye fertile mark in them, but...

Awesome, thanks for the link! I will have to give it a try. Newbie wish you were closer! If this works and I can keep him you can have some eggs if they prove fertile and you want to try hatching them! They're from the Hink JC line, pretty birds! You are the one that got me hooked on Lav...

Is that a real thing??? I once got chicken diapers for my silkie roo and would bring him in the house every morning until he stopped crowing haha. But then he started going all day long... Thanks for the support everyone!!! I believe I have a fertile egg for my Lav Orp roo over my BCM hen...

My lav orps are now laying!!!! Took exactly 6 months Unfortunately my beautiful roo is headed to freezer camp. He gets a few days reprieve for me to try and gather some fertile eggs. But we live in town and he is getting LOUD in the morning! I'm worried about bothering the neighbors too much....

My lav orp rooster started crowing He's 6 months old and hadn't attempted so I thought he'd be a quiet one. He's getting REALLY loud and crows all day. Listed as a pair, but no takers around here, and we can't keep roosters in town so he's headed to freezer camp tomorrow. So sad, Bruce is too...

When did your lav orps start laying/crowing? I figure with the daylight I won't get eggs until Spring, but fortunately my roo hasn't started crowing yet. He looks full grown, though they are 25 weeks old. I'm hoping he is somehow a silent roo so I can keep him haha. Once I had a freedom ranger...

I wish you lived closer to me!!!! I have a trio from the Hink JC lines that are 24 weeks old, and we're in town so I can't keep the rooster. He's too pretty to go to freezer camp, but if he starts crowing before someone wants him that's what will have to happen :(

If the age really is 2 1/2 weeks I would say a boy based on there not being tail feathers yet. But doesn't seem to have much of any feathers at this point. By 2 weeks mine had wing feathers, scapular feathers, and the girls had tail feathers. Boys are the last to get tail feathers. Comb...

Yes sounds like the older is a girl and the younger is your roo. I need to get rid of my roo before he starts crowing, they're already 19 weeks! WAY too pretty for freezer camp, but I may not have a choice if no one wants them. Trying to sell them as a pair one boy, one girl.

I only hatched lavender orpingtons once, but hatched 16 and sexed them by tail feathers with 100% accuracy. A week age difference at this point can make a difference in tail size. The comb on the latter is much bigger, so I would say without seeing their tails your guess is probably accurate.

Mine is very sweet too, but I'm making a point of not getting attached to him or holding him in case he does end up as dinner. We live in city limits so no roosters for me :( If I can't rehome him (which is hard since everyone else around here can't keep roosters) I'm not left with many options.

We have a freedom ranger meat bird that is clearly a rooster, but he is masquerading as a hen to keep him alive. All the other meat birds were processed a month ago, but he's still out there. He even clucks instead of crowing haha. And yes we are sure it is a rooster ;) I also had a silkie...

When did your roosters start crowing? And I know hens that are of laying age in winter will wait until Spring, don't suppose that works for crowing, too??? flgardengirl-- Funny pics!!! Out of curiousity, how loud are your Lav Orp roosters compared to others? We have one, but he's only 17 weeks and not crowing yet. I've been trying to sell him as a pair with his hen, but no takers. If he gets too loud and I can't find him a home he's going to...

Hi everyone!!! I have 4 lavender orpingtons that I hatched out from mail order eggs 10 weeks ago. From the beginning I have always thought I had 3 pullets and 1 cockeral based on how quickly 3 started to get tail feathers as baby chicks and the 1 that took much longer. 3 definitely look like...
