Good luck with the hygiene of your ducks. They are so so very messy. I raised them at one point and couldn't deal with the filth. Maybe one day when I can free range them with a large pond, I would get more.

We finished the run to the the wyandotte's coop today, and I just wanted to share some photos I took. One pullet was feeling particularly photogenic

Lol! I saw a color chart that had to have at least 50 colors on it the other day. It really surprised me. If I ever get guineas, I want a whole rainbow of them.

There are two wyandotte cockerels and maybe six or seven pullets. I didn't count all the females. In the brooder up top I have three Japanese bantam pullets I'm growing out. I had ten Japanese cockerels as well but rehomed them. I thought I hatched really cockerel heavy this year but the...

We have birds on the ground! The food and water set up is temporary, but I'm so glad they are out of the brooder. It will be much less stressful to work on now.

Very nice! I'm not sure if you'll get eggs out of the pullets this year, they may not mature in time before the days get too short. The girls take so long to reach point of lay.

We hurried and got the coop's roof on yesterday in anticipation of the rain and wind. The brooder should be protected from the storm for now, and is three feet off the ground. We didn't flood in August but just in case the chicks are safe. Once the rain stops we'll be starting on the roof of the...

The stores get the chicks vent sexed, or if a barred bird can judge based on chick color. Vent sexing is about 90% effective, and chick color in barred birds can be difficult to judge sometimes. It's the luck of the draw sadly

We cut the tops of the posts for the roof yesterday and I'll be buying the 2x6s for the joists sometime in the next few days. I've been anxious to expand for a couple years now and can't tell you how happy I am to finally start

It's been a hot minute since I posted, but between working 6 10s, getting a new dog, and moving into and simultaneously renovating a new house, I can share this! 16' x 24' coop for my wyandottes. It will be split down the middle with two 8 x 8 coops and two large runs. One side will be for my...

The kids loved it. We had some family come spend the holiday with us that we hadn't seen in a while. They are remodeling from the flood and we were fortunate not to be affected. I planned the hatch just right to where they could hold some that were dry and in the brooder and they could also see...

Thinking of everyone during this flooding. I know so many affected and the water is still rising. The town I live in is an island surrounded by others that have flooded. My aunt woke up to thigh high water in her home and had to evacuate. She and her family are safe in Texas but have lost everything
