Any one want to join me in waiting for eggs, posting and comparing notes?

i have no idea, I just found the post on BYC and it has about 100 comments from people that tried it with success. I'll let ya'll know. She eats it like it is candy. No improvement today...she has had three doses...two days left until it is all gone. Hope it works. She is also eating yogurt. She...

I didn't know about it until this morning. It is a yeast infection in the crop. Usually caused by a piece of food that got stuck and then 'rotted' essentially. There are several threads here, one where a guy used monistat to treat it in his chickens. It sounds like many chickens die if left...

I have a perimeter fence for my dogs with a remote shock button. It sounds cruel, but so is murdering a chicken. My older dog has never bothered the birds much, but we have a puppy that is slowly learning not to chase them. I think an airsoft gun would be perfect, they probably won't even feel...

I read back through quite a few, but missed some posts. I went out to trim the wings of my birds, they are free range, but we can't have them hopping into neighbor's yards, lol. Anyway, I posted my double yolker from my Austrolorp back when mine finally laid first week of this month. It was...

Ya, I think my mom is pretty tired of my egg texts :)

We are going to need more chickens to keep up with our egg demand. We eat about 6 a day. Two a day for me and my husband and one each for the kids. My husband and I are celebrating our 5 year anniversary this month too! We got our first green egg today, the EE decided to lay one. I think the...

I have one more question! What do you have in your laying boxes for bedding? Mine has 4+ inches of pine bedding. The giant egg was cracked from hitting the wood. They scratch down to the floor and lay.

I should say, one of my pullets. They were hatched in the first week of the year and one started laying about June 1 and the other just laid her first egg today, still waiting on #3 to lay an egg.

My pullets didn't start laying until the very end of their 5th month. My red has been laying for a week now, my black has been nesting and laboring for a week and just finally laid today. We know it was her because the egg size difference is REDICULOUS! Check this out! Can't wait for the EE...

I'm in the Valley too. The girls have been hanging out under a bush in the damp soil during the day. I hope they can stay cool enough out there. What do you do for yours in the heat?

My EE is running around the yard squacking while my production red is in the coop screaming trying to lay an egg. I can't imagine we are going to be able to keep them, haha, they are so loud it is unreal. Do they quiet down? Our chickens started their lives in the bathroom as well. My coop is...

We got our first egg this AM. The Golden girl is an EE, the black is an Austrolorp and the red is just a production I think...or an Austrolorp. We ate an EE and a production red rooster. The hen was so friggin' loud laying this morning. Do they quiet down as they get stretched out? She sounded...

Can you treat worms with diatomaceous earth instead of chemicals? I have no idea if this is possible or not with birds, just a thought that occurred to me when I read this. I would be heartbroken throwing out eggs :(

We ate our roosters. I thought it would be hard, but I was surprisingly ok with it. We are meat eaters, I much prefer growing our own to supporting the sad conditions commercial chickens are raised in.

We have 3 hens. We bought 5 birds 'pullets' at the beginning of the year, but 2 of them were roosters. The red and black hens are SO noisy. We have them in our backyard in a subdivision in the middle of an Urban city. Our neighbor on the side of the house that the coop is on is ok with it, we...

I barely read through, there are over 3000 posts, haha, but thought I'd jump in. My chickens are 22 weeks! Waiting for our first egg. Noticed a funny new behavior from my easter egge. When she is scared she squats down, lol. Not sure what that is all about, but it makes me giggle. It happens if...
