Are any of you moving to the May HAL (Cinco de Mayo HAL)? I have Silkie/Sizzle and RIR eggs due on 5/5, turkey, lav Orps, EEs and more Silkies due on 5/10 and guineas due 5/17. I think I'm going to shut the incubator down after these are done (what I said after my last hatch).
That being said, I...
^ Congrats!!!
I put 6 turkey eggs in the incubator last night. And picked up 4 dozen more eggs from my chicken buddy. And I have 18 eggs sitting on the counter :hide
I guess I'm starting another hatch :gig
Here are (most) of my April HAL chicks! They're in the big brooder now. I still really don't know how many chicks are under my broodies. I'll make a final count when the guy I'm splitting the hatch with comes and picks up his chicks tomorrow.
:woot Lots of hatching today!
jenntucker2000 (sorry, I would quote, but my phone doesn't like to do that for some reason)- I try not to hatch during the winter, we heat with a wood stove so the temperature in my house doesn't stay very steady. But, for some reason, I always end up putting a...
Here's what my brooder looks like right now! And there are still eggs hatching like crazy, 3 more chicks have made their way out since I last posted (like 30 minutes ago)!
Heron's Nest Farm- I clean mine with vinegar and hot water, then let it dry in the sun. I occasionally use bleach solution, but mostly vinegar.
I must admit, my incubator does have a bit of a funky chick smell still. Another reason I bought a second 'bator. So I could have the fresh one for the...
I came home from work last night to a 'bator full of chicks and the humidity at 93%! There was so much condensation on the windows that it looked like it was going to start raining in there!
So, I opened it up and pulled them out. My cracked OEGB egg had hatched, with its yolk not fully...
Why do I have to be at work today? :barnie
I just wanna go home and see what's going on in my incubator but NOOOOOO. I have to do this stupid work thing so I can pay my bills. This day is dragging...
Here are my first 2! An OEGB and whatever that little blue thing is, a Sizzle, I'm guessing. I had to open the 'bator and add more water, so I took them out and put them in the brooder. My humidity was and has been holding steady at 67%, but the wells were all dry. Once they dry out it doesn't...
My first chick just hatched :celebrate
I think its a Silkie, Sizzle or a Silkie mix. It looks like it has light skin.
I didn't even know any of the eggs were pipped :P
I lock down my eggs today! I'm hoping I can stuff them all into one 'bator. I never did check the eggs under my broodies either, I guess it'll be a surprise.
:fl
I forgot to update this thread. I had my first April hatchling make its appearance on the 1st. When I heard peeping in the 'bator that morning, I thought someone was playing an April fools joke on me. But, at about 9pm that night, I had a cute little blue Silkie or Sizzle running around in...
I just got done candling ALL. THOSE. EGGS.
I pulled 3 Leghorns and 3 Rhode Island Reds that were clear and 1 Silkie/Sizzle egg that had quite. The OEGB egg with the crack is still alive, but the air cell is pretty big, so I don't have high hopes for it. I sealed the crack with some nail polish...
I usually draw out the air cells on mine too, but with as many as I've got going this time...no way! It'll take me forever. It took me, like, 5 minutes to candle them. My flashlight is bright enough that I don't even have to pick them up.
For what its worth, some of my hens take some pretty...
I did the same today, and I'm only on day 3 I could see development in most of them, some of the LF eggs were clear, I left those just in case. I pulled more than 2 dozen clears and a couple of blood rings from my own eggs The rest had great looking little spiders in them. The last time I...
