    And, thank you everyone for your help... someone else wrote that the females seem to have a more orange-y bill and the males, a more olive bill. I've yet to successfully vent sex any.... If I trusted what I've found so far, they'd all be female :)

    Well, in humans, the sperm determines the gender of the offspring...(a whole long science class on X and Y chromasomes) in chickens, the HEN determines the gender.... I wondered if the same was true in ducks

    Question: Who determines the gender of the offspring.... drake or hen? and, is it likely OR, even certain, that whichever one does the determining, they'd ALWAYS create the same gender? The reason I ask.... I have two males and two females.... and one of the males has laid claim to both...

    We have a bunch of babies that are now approximately 2 months old..... the thing I notice first is that the tops of their heads are turning green.... this is REALLY evident in the sunlight.

    when do tail feathers curl? all three of the ducklettes have high pitched peeps? colour at hatch doesn't give any clues?

    I have oodles of questions about ducks in general and Mallards in particular..... Never had ducks before...I'm hatching eggs that my in-laws are giving me... they will take the majority of them back once hatched.... I'm wanting to keep two females and a single male.... First Question...

    Your ducklettes are very cute.... (yes, I know that the correct word is duckling.... :) ) How do you tell which is male and which is female? I have three - one has the same markings as yours - one is all black, or just extremely dark, dark green and another has a yellow top knot and yellow...
