Hello all. We'd like to welcome everyone to the Sussex County Poultry Fanciers Association Annual Fall Show. We'll be hosting the Jersey Giant Club National Meet this year. We are located in Augusta, NJ.
Please see the show thread for the catalog and discussion...

I'm in central Jersey, too. Where are you? I use vaseline on the combs in the winter - once a week. I have a faverolles roo with a good size comb and we didn't have any problem - but he sure didn't like it!

I tried 2 days, and it didn't work for me. Three to five days worked for me. I think 5 is best, because I noticed the ones I broke in 3 days did go broody again within a month.
Me, too. I have one in a cage right now, she's been there for two days. I had the same issue as Kathy...

Bulk-wise they are similar, but the brahmas stand straighter, so they are sometimes taller. And they can look bigger with all those feathers. I've run the gamut with both breeds.

I'm on the fence about caponizing, but I have heard the same thing about the results. When I think of the beautiful males I had to give away!
Wynette, I just wanted to say that, while I don't really post, I do follow the thread, and I think you're doing a great job as a leader here...

Yeah, I was wondering this, also. I dunno, though; if Cornish are genetically bred to grow huge muscles...if you displaced those genetics onto a larger framed bird, would they then produce a bird that is larger, with even larger muscles?
What I'm thinking is this:

Mrs. Fluffy Puffy :
So frustraited right now! This morning I found my Splash JG rooster dead in the coop. Have no clue what happened to him. *Sighs* It might be awhile'fore I get another one for the JG ladies.
Oh no! I'm so sorry! I've lost some of mine that way - it's just horrible.

Today is hatch day for me, and I have two out and at least one pip. How are yours coming along, fifelake?
I have 3 out now and two that have pipped! It seems to be going slower than normal and I have a divider set up in the middle to keep apart Maria Hall's from Wynette's. Those...

I always say, the more I learn about chickens, the more I learn I have more to learn.
It's funny - and annoying - but, I found an old issue of The Poultry Item on google books, and was reading some of the articles, and those guys back then were dealing with the same issues we are today...
Pray for me people! For our show next week, I have, out of 9 other birds, three JG's to wash - including two whites! I'm already tired! Who wants to come help?

I've gotten beautiful black Giants from John Pierce and his son, Tim. (Same name, I know.) They are in the Syracuse area. I don't know the name of the club up there, but I'll try and find his info for you...somewhere around here...
They are always at the shows in the area, although...
Hi - would all the folks here going to Crossroads please take this poll I've set up? If there's enough interest, BYC might host a meet & greet for us at a hotel after the show where we'd actually be able to find - and hear - each other. Thank you, and please tell others you know who are going...

I've been using bag balm for my roo's comb. I don't think there is any one better than the other, as long as it's done.
Bill, that's great - always handy knowledge to have. Middletown has no regulations, either. I got that from the zoning board man. You might - for your own...
This is my 9 lb hen next to her boyfriend - the 17lber!
He belonged to my friend, who does giants and is working on partridge brahmas. He has great birds. I keep bugging him to get on here. I'll have to take pics of his birds next time I go up there. He's in NJ, as well.

My Millie (in my avatar) was a solid 10 lbs. My new white pullet is way bigger than her at six months. I'll have to get her on a scale somewhere - now I'm curious. A friend of mine had some 13 pounders, maybe a 15. He's got some nice roos.
For comparison, his 6-yr-old brahma roo...
