Woo Hoo, I'm one of Us! (that's a line from Romancing the Stone when Danny DeVito becomes a Sufi). I just joined the ABC and I didn't even have to walk, bare-footed across a bed of hot coals.
The one to the right (anatomical right, I guess left on the screen) looks closest to our standard. The legs and beaks I'm assuming eventually turn black or slate? The one in the forefront looks a little light and does it have a crest? They all seem to be slightly light in the beard/muff but I...
Has anyone else who shows noticed that champion row has been dominated by the games lately? It seems like every show I've been to, the juges have been gaga over the aseels, shamos and modern games. I can't even get my ams looked at and I have really nice ams.
I started out with ameraucanas and brahmas because I thought they would be good with kids and they're Okay with the kids, a couple bad roosters in the beginning but they "met with an accident" and the offspring of the nice roosters haven't been mean at all, but they're just not cuddly. The best...
Those legs look the best yet. A little darker on the legs and the beak and you've got a barred ameraucana. Her eye color and body type look really nice.
Jerry (Or Jean if you're out there), I want to add some new blood to my flock next spring. I have a lot of Paul Smith birds and they are really nice, I love their type. I think I am going to order from Paul and Angela again this winter but I want to order from someone else too. I am going to...
I love his type and I don't think that his tail angle is too high either. I don't put so much faith in the tail angle/fluff hypothesis myself. A lot of my young cockerels start out with abrupt tail angles when they first go through "puberty" and then as they get older and more confident, they...
Really, I can't stand them. They are so fickle and so much less reliable than an incubator. Plus you have to make a separate area just for them. And they are so cranky! That being said, I have like three hens with chicks in the yard right now.
At least they're pink legs, not green and the willow is coming. Can't wait til you perfect those cuckoos and feel like selling some eggs.......
I have now officially raised over 10 cockerels from my Smith birds and not a single one with leakage (BBS blacks and lav splits). I did get leaky...
I just don't get why white is so horrible. I had a white bantam roo and he was a cutie. Of course, I didn't breed him to my standard lavs or bbs but I did sell him to a couple who wanted to start a backyard flock of easter eggers.
Can you explain in a little more detail. I don't really understand what you mean (which is very embarassing because I have a degree in genetics!)
I guess what I don't understand is how, just by looking at that pair, can you tell who is dominant and who is recessive?
I don't mean to be picky because I am of course humble before you, but I really love the barring and want some for myself as soon as you have them available for sale so I have a couple of questions. First, I notice that your avatar has a bit of a high tail set and that his legs are a bit light...
