What has happened?

Ok - I haven't raised chickens since the 70's. I had Barred Rocks before and they all produced nice light brown to medium brown eggs. So I figured that it would be nice to have that breed again after we built our chicken house this Summer. I been patiently waiting for our first eggs to arrive (since they were all April hatchings). Yesterday lo and behold we found 3 eggs 2 light brown and the other blue. Today there was 2 light and 2 medium brown. Where did the blue egg come from? Was there possibly an Ameraucana in the mix before the chicks were hatched? I am perplexed to say the least . . . . . . . Below is a picture of the color differences of the eggs and of our flock. Meet Gomer and the girls are LeVergne & Shirley, Lucy & Ethel.

Got them from a lady and I do not remember her name.she said they were purebreds but I'm not sure. All eggs today we're light brown. Could this be just a fluke and may never happen again?

It's a beautiful egg. Nice size too..let us know if you get more.
If I had to guess at what happened. .maybe she crossed a cuckoo maran with a blue egg layer? Made a olive Eggers and some how it got into her barred rock pen?
Maybe someone more experienced can answer..

That you for your help. May never find out. . . . . .

We're you hoping to breed them as purebred stock?
Likely the rest of your stock is.
Maybe she crossed a cuckoo maran that has baring with a creme legbar also barring. . Made olive eggers.. alot breeders let the run together in winter and in breeding season the seperate and wait a month. Possibly a olive Eggers bred one of her barred rock hens. Even though it was a fluke one got thru.
Likely when she set her eggs in incubator, or sent them to you they were brown.. but that fluke ended up looking like a barred rock but her daddy was a barred olive egger.

Likely the rest you got is ok. Just cull the olive egger.
That's just my inexperienced guess. . Maybe a breeder will chime in

Thanks Rod-T. You may be right but I still have a question. I only got a blue/green yesterday . . . their first day of laying. Why didn't I get one today? Today's eggs were all brown.
