French frogs

well it's out on the porch right now, in the process of gutting the compressor and other non needful things......

I'm gonna put it in front of the old transmission, and engine blocks I have on the porch, so it would be an improvement.
wow...engine blocks....we must be related...like a true redneck...I got lawn ornaments....

It looks like he has a crest!
I like the hot water bottle idea! I did that once with transporting a chick, but it was a single. I would just take the bottle out before you get out of the car. Lol. Oh my goodness!!! I love the black feet! Duckie feet are so adorable!! I wish I could give him a kiss! That is so super cool!! Chicken friends are good people! :fl I had a question but you already posted the answer. Don't give up hope yet!
Yes they are!!!!! ;)

Ok, hatch update... hatch is over. Bator is turned off. After the one duck hatched yesterday, I had 3 that still looked promising. I let the earliest one go to 48 hours from pip, checked on it... DIS. :hit Next one was at 36 hours, so before I went to bed, I checked it, and opened it up a bit, made sure the bill was clear. Saw a few active blood vessels. Next one was around 24 hours, so I just made sure the pip hole was clear and moist. Got up at 3 am, still same status, helped the other one a bit more. The membrane was really dry and holding him in. So I moistened it up, as I was telling myself that I should have left it alone! Got up at 5 am and both were out!!! YEAH! I'm not sure if the one I helped really needed my help, and I thought it was going to need culled...its neck was kinda twisted and it wasn't moving one leg. Within an hour it was fine and running about the bator. Checked the rest of the eggs, all DIS. I think the humidity was too low for the ducks, but great for the chicks, so I don't think I'll hatch them together any more. I'm also wondering if the delayed humidity raising was partially to blame, but I'm still happy with the results. 3 pretty little duckies... This is the one I assisted.
When I first started reading your post, I thought none of the other ducks made it, just the one. I was so sad. Then I read the rest and saw the pics!!! That one with the spotted feet...:love!!! What a cutie!! I didn't realize when I was suggesting about upping humidity late, that you had duck eggs in there!! I'm just thinking chicken eggs...I'm sorry. :hugs but seems like overall it was a great hatch!!
sounds great WV. congrats. so I have set a goal, for myself. I'd like to start incubating some eggs, the first of the year. provided I can find some eggs. Think I'll try to stick with RIR's, and Barred Rocks and or some white leghorn.
Have you hatched ever before?
dang, fertile eggs are expensive!! one place listed 7 eggs for $42 does that sound right? another place was 10 eggs for $37
It really depends on the quality. Find some good breeders, they will work with you. Do you have Facebook? There are tons of breeders and egg auctions on there. Also sometimes you can find good breeders on eBay. If you see the breeds you want, send the seller a message and start talking. Find out if they have a farm page you can see or if they are on BYC. I know a few BYCers that sell on eBay.
I'd go with a private person before a hatchery if possible
