January 2016 Hatch-Come Join Me

I think I'm going to set on Christmas Day for a mid- January hatch.

Since I missed the New Years Hatch-A-Long this year due to not getting any eggs.

My hens have picked up a little and I think I can gather two or three dozen between now and Christmas to be able to set.

I wished there was some store in the L.R. Arkansas area that sold fertile eggs. I'd like to try hatching some if those.

I'm getting an incubator for Christmas, but think it will take me a couple days to regulate temps before adding eggs.

I was reading about planting to the moon cycles, and that suggests starting them on New Year's Eve.
Adding my second RIR rooster to the flock today, so that gives him a couple weeks.
May be some mixes this first go round, but after that, I will have nice production RIRs to hatch out

Mine are going to be Naked Necks and a few mixed chicks.

The eggs of mine should all hatch out Naked Neck, because my rooster is totally naked on his neck area. There are two hens that aren't naked necked but even their chicks should all hatch naked necked.

I have someone looking into getting me some RIR eggs to hatch.

aww, I only have one naked neck hen, and she is just 2 months old.
So no more NNs for me for a while.

Once I have a few hatches to test fertility (after roo #2 goes in tonight), I should have plenty of RIR eggs

I totally love the Naked Necks. I'm trying to go totally Naked Neck but I'm having to take the long road. Every time I get them built up good something happens. Hopefully one day I'll get three.

Be sure to let us know how the hatch turns out, setting by the almanac. I've never read one that told about setting eggs. Maybe I just never finished it.
