Welp. My polish hatched, 4/5 eggs. The other was dead in the eggshell and didn’t pip. My hatch rates with these guys are so back and forth.

About done with polish, but i should have a Cochin bantam hatch before the month ends, plus 2-3 straggler eggs from the polish that got set that same run. I split the Cochin eggs between an incubator and a first-time broody, since the eggs are from separate pens and I’m trying to track parentage. Hopefully she’ll prove to be a good mama, so I can let her brood again later this year.

So here we are on the final day and I'd say it was a good hatch out of 16 total eggs setted emerged 11 healthy young ones

Day 20 and I have 5 chicks already. The little chipmunk chick has a pea comb!!! (And a head spot…) I hatched already over 30 from that coop and not a single one has had a pea comb until now. So this means my little blue Araucana boy got lucky with a Sapphire OE lol my adorable little manlet 🤪 he has 10 girls to himself now that I’ve divided all my birds into 3 coops and runs. I’ll do a test hatch in March to see how fertility and genetics look.

Some of the older pullet chicks are teaching a group of new babies how to eat and drink. My son chose his favorite chicks to keep in his room, mostly splash and chipmunk babies. Dang it I really don’t like having chicks in the house, but he loves them. lol I’m vacuuming and dusting constantly. The rest are in brooders in the garage. I am waiting on the last egg to hatch! All 30 eggs that made it to lockdown have (almost) hatched (the last is pipped), so that’s 30 chicks out of 39 total eggs set in this batch . Not bad for winter.
