Early February 2016 Hatch - Who's In?

Looks like my loner has survived the night with my broody! Momma Opal is doing a wonderful job and I didn't hear a thing last night. I decided to call my loner "Edna" after my grandmother who passed away a few weeks ago. She loved chickens but never kept any. So far, I don't think that they have left the little nesting box. Is that normal?
So adorable! I love Silkies. I have two silkies coming my way in 2 weeks (they'll be 8 weeks old) plus 6 silkie hatching eggs.

I have really enjoyed mine. Opal was my very first. I had 7 silkie chicks last summer and nearly all turned out to be roos. I held onto one of them because he really was the sweetest rooster ever. But he was very vocal! Now I'm down to my two silkie girls. I have been debating on adding some silkie eggs to my order that ships this week. Seeing her all motherly makes me want more silkie mommas!

Yes very. They look great. If mamma let baby under wing and cuddled I don't think you should worry. You do need to have feed and water very close because hen will show baby how to eat and drink. I would switch to chick starter right away. It won't hurt hen but flock grower will hurt chick. If it's cool or cold outside mamma will keep baby close to keep warm. All in all... Looks great

Since taking my pics, I haven't seen (but I've heard) the chick. I have food and water right outside of the nest box but they haven't left it yet. Did switch from layer to chick start this morning- I had almost forgot! Broody is getting more active while she sits, so I'm hoping she will eat soon. Right now they are inside because I didn't have a good way to separate them from my other hen, in case the other one started to get mean, in the coop.

Sometimes that's what it takes.

Mine go into lockdown tomorrow. I will candle and hopefully set 30 eggs. All looked good a few days ago but anything can happen.

Thank you for the welcome. What are you hatching? Do you incubate often? I'm brand new to this, and I can surely see how addicting it can be! I am resisting candling every evening, which is what I'd like to be doing! Day 10 is Tuesday. Looking forward to that!

Welcome @AugustWoods
, my hatch date is February 20th. I am waiting on a new candler before I do my first path for clears.

I candled every 3 days for my daughter to record. She's making a video diary for her 3rd grade class to share. Many candle on days 7,13,18 or there about. Remember to candle right before lockdown to get a good count of total. Many great people and advice here. Just ask. People will answer.
