How old is she I have a glw that has a tint of pink at 10'weeks but her heckles aren't quite as pointed or showing any sign of saddle feathers. Wyandottes are hard and can come down to a crow or an eggOK - I have really been going back and forth on this bird from the beginning. She was always slow feathering and more "take charge" than the others. She has some pointed neck and tail feathers that make me worry. Although the comb and wattles are red, they haven't changed much since she was a chick, just grown with her. Currently sick, but I was able to get some shots that I hope will show better why I am so undecided... Your thoughts? The white granules on her feathers are from the Epsom Salt bath!
That's for sure a cockerel. Wyandottes can be slow to crow but I see saddle feathers.. sorry.OK - I have really been going back and forth on this bird from the beginning. I thought that too. The Wyandottes are very small (2.5 months) to have saddle feathers, so I will keep this one until it crows or produces an egg! LOL. I have had concerns since she was little. She was the first beak to redden and was very slow to feather. I know that Wyandottes all get red beaks and wattles though and have seen a pic of a GLW cockerel just a little bit older who was very developed. My GLW looks pretty pale in comparison to this one at the same age.
4 week old blue laced red wyandotte
My gut says rooster, but I really really want to be wrong.
At that age cockerel there are obvious heckles not as obvious saddle feathers but they are there and he is way to red for a pullet showing male feather signs my glw is a little older and I got worried about her because she only got a tint pink but you slw is above tinted it's redI thought that too. I'm leaning toward cockerel. The comb looks very pronounced as opposed to your others. Gorgeous birds!
