Chicken Breed Focus - Crevecoeur

The Crevecoeur is a rare chicken breed originating in France, where it was kept as a dual purpose chicken, raised both for its white eggs and for meat. It is named after the town of Creèvecoeur in Normandy and is one of the oldest French chicken breeds. It may be the progenitor of the La Flèche, Houdan, and Faverolles breeds.
The Crèvecœur has uniformly black plumage, a V-shaped comb and a large crest. In the United States and the United Kingdom, where consumers prefer table birds with light colored legs, it is primarily bred for ornamental purposes and exhibition.

The Crèvecœur was added to the APA's Standard of Perfection in 1874.

Interesting breed, I do like the comb though, very unique.

I like the looks of the breed I really want one of those devils but at least I have a naked necked cross of this breed witch I found out it was a roo after crowing

I have been looking for these!

I was surprised to see them listed as the breed of the week.

I found one breeder in Ga. When I contacted them asking if they were NPIP, I simply got a reply saying they would not ship out of state.....I would have driven down there for a breeding trio.

I am NPIP and therefore need a NPIP source.

I so want some of these. I am trying to get birds on the livestock conservatory endangered or threatened list. So if anyone know of anywhere that has them, pm me!!!!!PLEASE<<

I have found a few hatcheries with them, I am actually looking for breeder birds that are show quality. Sandhill preservation had some too, but they do not breed to the SOPs.

I should have made myself more clear. I am looking for a NPIP show quality breeder....Sort of like a needle in a haystack.

Sand Hill Preservation does breed to SOP. Their goal is to preserve genetic diversity so they do not cull for minor imperfections. You can get a group of these and do your own breeding and culling. Their stock will be superior to any of the commercial hatcheries have to offer. I have bought many breeds from SHP and was never disappointed. I do not show so imperfections do not make phase me. To say the least, their stock is robust.
There are not many people with the passion and dedication to preserve heritage breeds that the Drowns display. I applaud them.
