I have welsummer chick roo with a crooked neck, Birth defect? He is 6wks old noticed it a couple weeks ago, not sure if I missed it before or if it's new Any ideas?

I recently got 17 chicks that hatched may the 18th, and one of them, a Speckled Sussex, had crooked neck. At first it looked pretty bad, and i was worried, but ive been caring for it the same as the rest, and it has been healing up slowly. He is still a bit of a... strange one.... but he doesnt have any problems with eating or drinking.

A while ago, i had a silkie rooster who got attacked by my cat, and ended up with a severe case of crooked neck... it was terrible tho, and he ended up dead within the next week or so... so if the crooked neck isnt to bad, it can definitely be fixed, or the chicken can grow up with it and be fine. If it is a more severe case, in witch they could have trouble eating/drinking and doing the normal chicken things, you could end up with some problems.. If you could put up a picture of the chicken, it would be helpful .

It may be worth giving him some Poultry Nutri-Drench. There's a chance it could be crook neck/wryneck which can sometimes be corrected with Vitamin E and Selenium. Dosage for Nutri-Drench is 1ml for every 3 pounds.

Does he seem to eat/drink ok?

Yep he eats fine, seems healthy otherwise. Also have a hen from the same bunch that is showing signs of the same thing. They are on chick starter, also are free ranging so they have access to bugs, greens, the fermented hen scratch I feed the hens. Seems unlikely it's a deficiency, but will try that
