Thought I would bring this thread back to life seeing as how it has so much more useful information than the hugel thread just started. Hope everyone's gardens did well this year. Anyone have any updates? I'm up to 6 hugelkultur beds do far, I'm excited to finish this last one. I dont care for sharing pics buy I might have to post pics of it.

I have loved this thread and am reading through it yet again. Pics of your beds would be amazing!

Here are a few pics of the newest one I've been working on. I'm starting to fill all thre gaps/cracks with cardboard a scraps, goat poop, spent straw, and leaves. I measured just now and it's actually closer to 40 ft long than 30ft lol 6-7 ft wide and 5 ft tall so far

I'm restarting my oldest hugelkulture bed. I had a giant tree fall right next to it so I just stacked the logs on top of the old one. In these pics you can see how dark and rich that soil is. It's never had anything added yo it . It's only goat/rabbit manure, logs, leaves, and cardboard. Last pic you can see how rocky the ground is here, there is no real soil, just clay and rocks.

How awesome that you have the space to do that! How long does it take for you to gather the materials for that? Or did you have it all on hand?

I imagine tree roots would get in the way too. How nice to have a volunteer!

It's here. My property is 90% hardwoods and nobody has ever lived on it so I have downed trees everywhere and I get boxes of old food for my delivered every couple days so I have tons of compost and cardboard.

It was a giant. Dead for years. It was hollow so I cut it up and stood the trunk back up, filled it with soil and grew tomatoes in it! High enough the goats couldn't get them.. but the chickens could lol
That is so cool! I haven’t lived near woods in a very long time, I miss it. Are you managing it so that you still have the trees or are you aiming to clear the land?
