I only have marans cross at my place right now but I Love to follow the progress here and drool over your birds. It is very difficult to find even decent birds here on the western slope of Colorado, anything more than hatchery stock requires a trip over 6 hours one way. I keep hoping and working with my mutts. Working twords a more meaty bird in my backyard.

Mine are just project birds I have been playing with for the last several years but I am happy with some of the results. I have a couple boys in the growout group that are maybe born july and pushing 3.5 maybe 4 pounds? Their daddy is a Delaware cross but he was 5 pounds live at 12 weeks!
Sorry I am on the wrong thread to talk meat birds.... part of my interest in the marans is the size and the dark eggs. I Love a Dark egg to add to my egg basket. Most of my marans come from a cuckoo marans cock that I was given, i crossed him into my flock and have been hatching the darkest eggs i can find.

the eggs in the back are copper marans that I got from s friend that lives down the road from me. I managed to hatch 2 from here earlier this summer and they look ok to me. I will have to get pics when I get home Thursday.... I thought I had taken some but those girls Move fast lol
