Can you De-crow a Rooster?

omg, that little Richard thing is hilarious. Just cruising through byc and read this thread. I've got a rooster in my garage due to crowing and I'm not too sure if I'm even legal with my 5 hens so don't want to draw too much attention. Wish I could just turn off his switch without doing it permanantly..ha ha...gotta try the crackers. I'm sitting at the computer with my 4 week old baby cochin sitting on my desktop and she thinks the animated smilies are just so interesting! Hilarious.

When I read that post asking if capons could still crow- for some reason I thought of little Richard. And then I found this picture on google! I thought that this has to be the look they get when they get "caponized" (sp?)

Caponized roos do still crow. There is additonal hormonal tissues in the wattles and comb. Caponizing does make them placid, and does REDUCE the crowing, but if you are living in the city, you'll still get busted and your poor roo will be confiscated.

i'm going to have my mom (who works at a vet hosp) ask one of the drs there if its possible. if it wouldnt hurt the thing, i may have to offer up one of my free rangers. But id wonder if the rooster would give up on life? Because thats what he does. Crow and breed and protect.

hmmmm ill keep you posted on the DRS answer

Seramas sometimes only squeak loudly, but they don't give up...

Sounds very odd but when I was a kid my brother tried to kill one of our annoying roosters by getting some "milk" out of a cotton bush or similar plant. and made the rooster drink it. Thinking now was cruel. But the rooster didn't die but it could no longer crow, all it did was a very small squark. He lived for a lot of years after.
