Bresse Chickens

Pics
Nice to have 3 big girls to get this project going!!
I have some hens\pullets that roost on the coop and the sun shade at night. It is amazing to feel the difference in weight between the four Bresse, one Blue Marans and one SG Dorking that I have to pick up and move to their coops at night. The Blue Marans and the smallest Bresse are the lightest. The Three bigger Bresse are the Biggest so far.

Of course my Blue Australorp might wind up being the largest one I have. She is about 28 weeks old now.

I don't know if you guys are interested but if you guys want full grown/point of lay Bresse in white and are willing to pay the shipping, I can get some from Jon. He's terrible at getting back to emails and some of you might have had a communication breakdown with him but I know where he lives

He's an older retired guy with an ipad that confuses him sometimes.

His are super nice temperament wise. He just sent 60 or so to be processed because he didn't have space :(

I don't know if you guys are interested in the Blacks but he put his breeders together and should have quite a bit of eggs soon.

I will weigh some of them tonight.

That will be fun!
I weighed 4 of my Bresse Pullets tonight and my Blue Australorp.

Bresse are 33 weeks old

Pullet 1: 6 lbs. and .09oz
Pullet 2: 4lbs and 13oz
Pullet 3: 4lbs and 10oz
Pullet 4: 5lbs and 9oz

Blue Australorp is 28 weeks old and weighs 6lbs and 4.2oz

I will breed the three biggest pullets to the biggest Cockerel next spring. By then they will be even bigger.

lol yes theywill be bigger and more filled out. DId you plan to keep a back up cckl?

Blue Australorp is surprizingly big! Not hatchery stock I suppose?
I have backups of all of them.

The Australorps are from Chett Hupp. He has been working on a Blue project for a lot of years now. I waited for two years to get hatching eggs from him.

In order to get the chickens I want I have been practicing patience. I have also been lucky--like getting the Pita Pintas.

YEs, I remember you saying your area has it's challenges for chickens. So finding and trying thedifferent breeds is well worth the patience.

THe bresse must be surving well enough so far. GUess time will tell as you aobserve how they handle the seasons ahead.

The Bresse did very well in the heat this summer. They are turning out to be a good Breed for here.
