Landowner Kills Dogs Killing chickens

This girl is 19 and grieving for her dogs. She's not going to listen
to this stuff. Hopefully she will eventually figure out reality but right
now she is angry and sad. Most of us do grow up eventually. From
the age of the dogs it's her parents who are really the responsible
dog owners here.

Please everyone go easy here. I get angry when I read this too.
BYC is a wonderful and compassionate group of animal lovers. Don't
let this drama overshadow that.

I agree that she is hurting, Don, but she is 19, not 9. My sons were taught to have consideration for other people and not to intrude in any way on their space, with their own persons or with their animals. They knew that dogs were to be contained way before they were legal age. The fact here is that we are encountering the same attitude from her that we hear from adults, that chickens mean nothing, that they are dirty, filthy, nothing animals. She has no experience with chickens to tell her otherwise, so discounts their value; at least, that is part of the problem. The other part is that her parents have fallen down on their job in more than one way, apparently. I don't discount her feelings for her dead dogs, I really don't. Then again, sometimes the lesson of consequences for our actions is a very gutwrenching one to learn. And sometimes, those consequences fall on others, this time, her dogs.

***Just letting you all know that you've done very well with this thread, but it may close fairly soon as there isn't that much more to be said about it, IMO. We'll see how it goes. Thanks for all of the input and the restraint!

I think she meant the dog was 19 years old in people years.

SpeckledHen & Spotted Crow,

I completely agree with everything you both and others have said. I doubt this girl
is going to go out, get more dogs, and let them run free and I'm not trying
to defend her.

Problems like this need to be handled before they happen, not after. Speckled, I have
no doubt your sons were taught right and I hope I'm doing this with my son.

I'm having a hard time finding words here. I think it just bothers me when BYC
goes a little negative rather than it's normal positive self.

Am I making any sense here?

Don

We sure would rather things be positive and upbeat here. I would definitely prefer that! These are always sad situations, Don. I don't know you that well, but I can pretty well bet you're teaching your son to respect other people and their property. So, on that note, I think what I'll do is to close the thread since there really isn't much else that can be said anyway.
So, again, I do thank everyone for participating.
