I just got a beautiful new splash silkie rooster!

But I noticed upon inspection he has mites. I treated him with Seven Dust last night before putting him to bed but I want to de-worm him too when I do the rest of my flock. Is it safe to give him wazine two days after dusting him? I wouldn't do a broad spectrum like Ivomec pour-on (that will be two weeks after his second Seven dust treatment) but since wazine is only for round worms do you think he would be ok?

Yes Egg_newton it's safe to worm him after using sevin dust. I recommend that 2 or 3 days after worming that you feed your chickens plain yogurt mixed with scrambled egg and/or canned beef catfood mixed with their feed to make a mash and give it to them 2 days in a row. I also would recommend putting nutri drench in their water for 2 or 3 days also. Worming causes stress on their system and weakens immunity. You'll be giving your chickens probiotics (plain yogurt), protein (scrambled egg and cat food) to build their system back up. Dont give them any eggs that they layed after worming them, throw them in the garbage. It's the same routine after the 2nd worming in 2 weeks with your 2nd wormer. BTW- Do you know the ivermectin pour on dosage to give your chickens in 2 weeks? If not, please PM me and I'll let you know.

Yes, 3 drops for a regular size bantam directly on the skin on the back of the neck almost between the shoulders. Try not to get any of it on the feathers, it absorbs quickly and effects are unknown. Sorry, what is a LF?

The ivermectin will kill the mites as well and is less risk to you. Sevin dust is bad stuff and very bad for the environment. Now you've gotten most of the mites, I'd just do a follow up with ivermectin.

lemurchaser you are absolutely correct that ivermectin pour on will kill lice/mites. However, if you use ivermectin prior to using wazine17 and your chickens are possibly infested with worms, you could possibly kill your chickens from the toxicity from the dead worm overload. Ivermectin kills many many types of worms. Wazine17 gets rid of one type of worm, the most common type that chickens have...roundworms. You use the wazine first to lessen the wormload to prevent toxicity, then 2 weeks later use the ivermectin pour on to kill roundworm larva and a host of other worms. BTW, wazine only paralyzes roundworms, ivermectin kills them all, except tapeworms. Egg_newton has an immediate issue to address mites/lice on his chickens and needs immediate treatment. Sevin dust has been used by farmers and gardners for years, as I have in my garden for the past 35 years. I've used it on my dogs throughout the years and now on my chickens for thr past 5 years with no ill effects. Both wazine and ivermectin are poisons designed to paralyze or kill parasites. If worms are excreted as well as throwing away contaminated eggs, where do the dead worms and eggs go to? Yep in the soil, contaminating the soil, possibly the water table. What do you do with an expired bottle of wazine or ivermectin? I know for fact that ivermectin has label warnings about soil and water contamination, said so on the 5 liter jug I had. DE,cayenne pepper, vermx,VetRx etc... are not wormers and will not kill worms. They are good preventatives and that's it. Also as long as sevin dust is being sold,I'll continue to buy it and use it and recommend it in a heartbeat because it works just like ivermectin, which is off label as well.

I know Sevin kills all the good bugs along with the bad bugs. Such as the bees. I prefer to use it early in the season before it get warm so the olny thing it is killing is the mites and lice not everyone else. Also, I used the pour-on last fall when the rest of my flock had external parasites and it just didn't seem to do the job. I don't know if it was because I hit feathers instead of skin or if I forgot to treat the coop. Possibly both. This time i treated the coops and the birds. I also like that with the powder when they go into the coop and shake off they dust the coop for me. I just know it has been over two months since I treated my flock with Sevin and I haven't seen any bugs on them.
