Hi All -

My very first forum post EVER, ANYWHERE!!

Is anyone familiar with this auto feeder device? Looks interesting, available on eBay, and would run about $12, including shipping, to get one from UK supplier.

Uh Oh, I guess I'm too new to post a URL to the YouTube video for this item. Go to YouTube and search MSPuddleduck123 to see the video.

It's a lever, sort of like a waterer nipple, but apparently opens and closes a hole in the bottom of a container to let out a bit of food at a time. Chickens in the video don't seem to have any problem making it work, and as shown it's mounted so that chickens can't get into the pan used to catch the feed, so no scratching or pooping in the food.

Thanks to all of you for the great info and ideas I've gleened from the site so far........

Ok, this looks so incredibly cool! Does anyone have any idea what the trigger thingy is? Seems kinda ridiculous to ship something like that halfway around the world if I don't have to.

This would be a great solution for me.

Ha... yeah. Please do post pics of what it is when you get it.

Both the video and ebay listing don't actually show what it is.

First thing I thought of was a long bolt with a big round fender washer at the top sitting in the bucket through a smaller hole in the bottom. And a plastic sleeve on the bottom of the bolt sticking down through a hole where the chickens tap it and it tilts the bolt and lifts the washer up off the hole and lets some feed come out. Just my guess! haha.

Looks like it works well. And it fairly mess free. Similar to a watering nipple (which I just ordered some from Neil... thanks Neil!)

Cheers!

Got mine in the mail. Very simple and might be easy to make your own.

I should be trying it this weekend. Here is the picture.

The hole you make is dependent on whether you feed pellets, grain or crumbles.

It is just two pieces of metal glued together with a type of modeling clay on certain parts.
