They'd probably be alright. I'll have mine in the coop by then, so I could easily chick-sit yours if you're willing to drop them off and pick them up. We can mark them easily enough. Unless we get a crazy cold spell, they should be fine though. I had my 6 weekers outside last year in May and just put a light out one night when it got down to about 35. The problem with May weather is that it's soooo random. If you're willing to be flexible, just check the 10-day forecast before you leave and plan then. I have a big 8x8 coop though, so could easily house them for a while if the weather takes a dive. Let's hope those brabanters are ready mid-march

Hi everyone! I am in Amesbury, and I'm pretty new to BYC, and I'm interested in ordering cornish X from McMurray, but don't want all 25...I've heard that McMurray chicks grow up biggest, so I wanted to go there and get mostly males..is anyone local interested in splitting an order? I don't know if I would have to order all cornish or if someone wanted other chicks to get me up to 25 that might work? If anyone is interested, let me know

Good to see so many other people in MA raising chickens!

If I could find somewhere local and cheap to butcher/process, I'd definately do meaties. I'm not doing it myself though.

I just scored a 6x12' dog kennel to use as my run! I'm going to jig it around and use the 8' wall of my coop as one side, so the girls will have plenty of room. They'll also have access to a larger section of the yard during the day/summer. Now I just have to get it to my house.....

Hello I am in the Middlesex area of MA.

Near Concord, MA. Been here all my life. I had chickens some 6 years ago and just recently got back into them. Of course when I had them, I was a lot younger and had no idea what I was doing. Nooooow because of this and the internet, I have 18 hens, 25 meaties in the brooder, and 12 layers in the brooder ( including some Silkies and Polish from Shay20

I'm not doing it myself either. I found a place in RI that does it for $2.75 per bird if you bring more than 12. I e-mailed them, but I'm waiting to hear back. I imagine there will be more posts on Craigslist as spring gets here and more people are looking for butchers.

Here is the info from the craigslist posting I found

Baffoni's Poultry Farm
324 Greenville Ave
Johnston RI 02919
401-231-6315

Chicken
1 to 12 Chickens $4.00 each
0ver 12 $2.75 each

Let me know if you are interested
