Darn fox!!

Find a Llama. It is a little known fact that Llama are great guard animals. They are territorial and will protect the animals in there territory from common predators. They are also one of the genteel creatures you can keep and extremely low maintenance. Being that they are a mountain animal they obtain most of their moisture needs from the grass they eat and require low amounts of feed. Eight Llamas can be maintained on the same amount of grass required for one horse. One Llama is so easy to maintain.

Their nature can be equated to a giant guinea pig with rabbit ears. A Llama will take care of your fox or coyote problem.

I would strongly advise a Great Pyrenees dog.( Picture below)They are bred to protect livestock. I wouldn't be w'out my girl. They keep everything at bay. We even have a Newfoundland dog. And she is turning out to be a good girl as far as my chicks go. I was sorta questioning what her disposition would be like since this is the first flock she's ever seen. But my Pyrenees is wonderful at protection. But even with that, whenever I let my 9 wk olds out to peck around I am ALWAYS with them. I take a cup of coffee and a yard chair and sit back and enjoy the show. They come up and talk to me and visit and then go back to their business. Until they are full grown and garden season is over... they won't free range without the "warden"keeping watch.

We are thinking about a guard dog, but we do have 2 nice dogs right now. Maybe later, in a few years. I couldn't have JUST a guard dog, it has to be pet also, coming in at night, etc. I have 2 horses and no room for a llama or a donkey which years ago I had to guard my sheep from coyotes, and it worked great. Sorry for every ones loss due to predators. It really hurts to lose them. I searched for days to try to find the rooster. The fox must have buried him and come back for him. Merry

No. I realize the fox was only trying to survive, most likely feeding it's young.I won't be responsible for letting little ones starve, so live and let live. I just keep the hens locked up in their nice safe pen now. Merry

Let's keep to the topic at hand folks.
We all have to make our own decisions on how to deal with predators. We are not here to judge others, but to learn or help educate. If it doesn't work for you, then don't do it. If it does, great. We are not going to debate about it pass judgement on others. Thanks!
