california - CENTRAL COAST

The atascadero pet hosp. Is great they took care of my goat and a chicken. I plan to put a fan, a huge "window" fan to help with heat, im also going to plant some nice bushes they can get under without hurting themselves. Not sure what bushes to put in with the geese that i dont have lol I should just start with the pen and coop first.

Hi Everyone,

I am looking to get a Livestock Guardian Dog pup for my farm from a town in Northern California by Redding. I am in San Diego and am looking to train/ caravan this guy down here. It'll be in about 8 weeks from now. If anyone can help or has any ideas can you please PM me.

Thanks!

I would go to akc.org - american kennel club and search for breeders. It does yake some training to get your dog to do his or her job correctly. Youre most likely looking for a pure bred however try not to rule out crosses. My girl right now is a lab, corgi, australian cattle dog cross and she would do just about anything I ask her to. She has watched my poultry, looked after my horses and even run off some coyotes. Good luck!

Sorry if I wasn't clear- I already found a pup but needed a ride from Nor Cal to So Cal.

We did find him a ride to Brea in LA so we are getting closer! If anyone regularly goes from LA to San Diego please let me know, thanks!!!

Oh sorry about that i read your post wrong! Good luck glad you found one ride!

Hello! I live in the Monterey Bay area, just outside of Salinas, on a small family farm. We have 4 kids, 3 dogs, 3 cats and 18 chickens! I am still new to raising chickens and so far I am obsessed and completely in love with them! I was active in the FFA during high school and raised pigs and steers (both of which I also loved) but never had an interest in chickens. We got started with them as a request from my 2nd child. We currently have 3 Am/EEs (Hazel, Penny, Coco), 3 Golden sex-links (Solita, Hunny, Pumpkin) 2 Barred Rocks (Hilda, Gretta) 2 BLRW splashes (Sugar Plum, Violet) 2 BLRW blues (Henrietta, Fiona) 1 BLRW blue roo (Oscar) 1 Wheaten Marans (Millie) 1 Blue Splash Marans (Charlotte) and 3 Lavender/split Black Ameraucanas (Opal, Penelope, Gwennie).

I am really excited to be a part of BYC and meeting other chicken lovers in the Central California area!

Welcome to BYC from a former Monterey Bay gal! Wish I'd started with chickens before I moved away from Castroville - but I didn't have the land on which to keep 'em. Ah well. You have the BEST of situations with a family farm. I'm so jealous.

Aren't chickens amazingly personable creatures?!?!

Thank you! Yes! I love where we live, I'm very fortunate. My children are the 5th generation of my family to be raised here, the land just keeps getting passed down
