Chicken Harness = Unhappy Chickens

I know this is an old post, but I gotta say... this has got to be one of the funniest things I've seen yet.

I am definitely GETTIN' a leash for my chickens -- I'm going to walk them around the neighborhood and take them out for trick-or-treat.

I noticed that in the 'chicken chariot racing thing' the chariot is made out of a KFC BUCKET. THAT IS JUST PLAIN IRONIC!! do you know how KFC treats their chickens?

Holy Hannah, I was thinking about a thether for my turkey, but the kite at the begining just left me rolling! Wahhhaaa haaa haaa, you guys are a hoot, are you still walking the chickens? heee hee he!

I'm glad i found this post, i was about to ask a similar question. after reading i'm sure it wouldn't be too hard if you have time for excessive training and giving treats and such. when my chicks come in i'll have to identify the roos and begin training as soon as their strong enough to have the extra weight. here is my plan.

1)put harness on once a day and give a treat when i put it on and when the bird walks, increasing harness time every day

2) eventually attach the "leash" and get the bird to follow me by bribing with treats & rewarding when it obeys

3) take the chicken on walks to my favorite places

4) bring treats on walks and a longer leash so that the chicken can walk about ant eat grass & bugs while im lounging around at the harbor enjoying the wind & the view

4) let fishermen and tourists take as many pictures as they want!

that is my "chicken leash training" plan!

We're going to leash train DD2's 'show chicken' as soon as it gets a bit bigger. We did this with a silkie we used to have a year ago and it worked really well.

Leash training a chicken is like leash training a cat:
You can get them to wear it calmly but they will almost never go where you want them to go.

I've tried it with a small harness for my bantams. i did the same as you and they hated it, but if you put the legs in the same part of the harness as the wings, it works really well.
Good luck!;)
