The light trickery is not worth the hassle for the gain... You will have trouble mixing your own feed long term, It just takes the fun out of the hobby and at that point it becomes work. Thalk to who over you are buying the chicken feed from. Ask them to order game bird starter.... Turkey starter would min in my opinion. If they wont, find a new feed store.....

There are only 2 proper companies that sell feed. I live in Sri Lanka. Whole country hasn't heard of GBS or turkey starter. Everything that clucks is fed chick starter (18% protein), grower (19%) or layer / finisher

I can see my girls laying well on 15.1% protein I'm feeding them now but males dont grow much

If it's still available feed them the grower since it's highest in protein. Make sure they have a calcium source at all times too.

Would you recommend something I can mix up with this broiler starter if I'm fattening up fpr meat?

Im sorry, I didnt catch that you were not in country.... If you can get "Soy bean meal" and use it as a additive it would work well to up your protein. but it must be processed soy meal and not just the raw crushed soy bean. Soy beans in their raw natural state have a enzyme that is difficult for fowl to digest.... The processing, cooking if you will, breaks down the enzyme allowing it to be more readily used by the bird. use sparingly thou, soy bean meal in the US runs 48% to 50 % protein. I would start with a 4 part broiler feed to one part soy bean meal mix and see how they handle it.... Quail dont like dust so I would guess they will only eat the bigger pieces. This will all be a trial and error deal. Just because you put it in their feed, dont mean they'll eat it! If you cant find soy bean meal, I know a woman that used bone meal in her feed as a added protein source. I dont have records of her ratios.... Good luck with your birds....

Calcium is 1.5% on grower/ layer and 0.9% on broiler starter. I am trying to get moringa, kale, broccoli etc on a routine so that some will be covered there as well

We have processed soy meal 42% protein here. I will make the rations as you advised and see. I did add 999 fishmeal which has 72% protein in bits but all I got was some really bad smelling poop :(

Will keep you updated on how the soy goes Bill... Thanks
