EcoGlow Chick Brooder

I have the 20 and being a hatchaholic also, I forsee having to get a second one. I'm trying to space out my hatches for now so I can have one set brooding at a time. But incubating is so addicting!

One of the best parts about the EcoGlow for the hatch-a-holic is that you DON'T HAVE TO space out your hatches! The chicks who need the warmer temps under it will hang out there and the others won't.

Ha, and just in time..,,a client is bringing me some chicks to my office Saturday, and I'll take it, set it up, and the babies will have a warm place to hang out while I finish work. Then I can bring it all home and settle them into their brooder box (a dog crate). I'd be scared of breaking a hot bulb...this will make it easier on them and me.

Perfect!

Ok, they are all huddled together but not under it. Urgh. Maybe they are just stressed from coming to the clinic, then the ride home, then me setting them into their new home with help from my 4 kids.

When they are asleep, just pick them up and move them under the ecoglow. They'll feel that it is nice and cosy under there and stay.

I had the same problem after we had a power outage at the coop and the ecoglow was off for a few days (luckily the nights were really warm, so they didn't stress too much). Then when it was back on and the nights were a bit cooler they were still sleeping outside the 'glow. So I just moved them and they have been sleeping under it without fail.

If they are not underneath it, then they do not need the extra heat. That's part of the beauty of the EcoGlow! If they were cold, they would go underneath and warm up or they would be cheeping discontentedly if they were cold and couldn't figure out that underneath is where the warmth is.

I actually disagree with moving them underneath it. Chicks will instinctively crawl underneath the EcoGlow, just as they would a mother hen, to get warm. If they are not underneath it and they are not cheeping, which would indicate they are cold, they simply do not need the additional warmth.

I ended up putting it over them, as they did look cold, where they then seemed to warm up, then came out for a snack. They put themselves to bed under it, and they were cruising around the brooder this morning when I checked on them. I can hear them cheeping, but it doesn't sound distressed or discontented. I like this thing a lot. It seems a lot safer than the lights I remember as a kid.

It is infinitely safer than traditional heat lamps. I'm so happy to know that you and your peeps like it too!

The fuzzybutts love it. They come out, scratch around, eat, drink, and then go huddle under and around it and nap. Repeat. It's like an artificial mom, and I can't help but think that is beneficial to their well being. One already hopped up on top and pooped on it.

Kinda wish I had two. These guys are going to get big quickly, I may need to split them into two groups (unless I can hurry up and get their coop done!) and it would be nice to have one for each brood box.
