The 'Lotsa Poop Chicken Coop' ***Poop Drawer Update***

I loved reading this thread. It had me in stitches. Thanks for all your efforts in posting all the details. I especially loved the clean out door dilema. Good fix! I usually use the quote "The painter makes the Carpenter look good"
Thanks again! Great reading!

Snarky? Did you know when you built the coop that chickens have chicken brains? You can change their opinions simply by stuffing them into the coop for a couple of days with food and water and then when you let them out....they forgot where they used to live.

I love chickens but they are not the brightest creatures on the farm.....I am sorry ....I am failing at snarky.

Chickens have a bianary personality. They are a lot like computers (hows that for your siliconvalleyesk locale!) For instance...01 go broody.....10 stop being broody......01 in momma mode.....10 who are you chicks get out the way I am hungry!!!!! Seriously, they fiip a switch and forget the babies are their babies and that is that. Chickens simply have on off switches with bianary code.

okay that is not snarky either

I give up...

I love your coop.

Today we sat down and tallied the receipts. Including tax (gotta pay for Uncle Jerry's programs) it came to right at $1,100. Keep in mind I already had the cinder blocks (an unfinished project) and the roofing materials. If I'd had to buy those I figure we could add around 200 bucks.

OK, snarky time:
Ya coulda saved a lot of money buying the hardware cloth from Amazon :)
1/2" x 36" x 100' was like $90 with free shipping. Lowes wants $50 for a mere 25 feet of the same stuff.

And if you don't need a whole 100 feet for the coop, time to build a run!!!

Or you can get the 50' roll for $55.

Nice coop. Mine will look like what it is, an old horse stall in a much older barn fixed up for chickens. Measuring is somewhat important since nothing is 'designed'. It is all similar to "how do I get the 36" hardware cloth on the floor joists above when they are 38", give or take 1", apart? How do I get a sill under the door when there is a HUGE rock jutting just above the surface EXACTLY where I want to put the sill?

In a year or so you can buy mine.  Moving to Commufornia is highly NOT RECOMMENDED.  Soon all that will be free are the chickens!!!!

Oh believe me, if i didn't have ailing in-laws that need their only son closer, we would not be moving.... Luckily, it looks like we will be able to keep the farm here for when it is time to "come home"
