What did you do in the garden today?

Hello gardeners! Today has been dedicated to SAR - Search and Rescue. I really need to limit my vacationing to winter time, I think. Of course, who would have predicted 90+ degrees in May? Most of my plants that were not yet planted are dead. Weeds and grass have taken over just about everything. I've been working for 6 1/2 hrs straight today and I've barely scratched the surface. I did manage a high level pass on weeding and got the worst offenders. I got everything passably watered. Supposed to storm imminently so I'll let Mother Nature give everyone a healthy long drink.

I'm slightly concerned about my Catawba grapes. Does anyone know why they look like this or what to do about it? They've been fertilized... Not sure why they aren't opening up? What's even more strange is the raspberries which grow in a raised bed in front of them also look weird like this?

Conversely, the Concord grapes look very good...

The green onions are flowering.

I managed to get my dandelion transplanting done before it started sprinkling..

Now a rant... I don't think our kids took very good care of the animals and my plants. They are 18 and 20 years old so no excuse for their half-@$$ efforts. I won't even go into the laundry list of mess I had to contend with except to say I think all my animals are VERY HAPPY we are back home. I had to move 10 chicks to an outdoor brooder to make room for 5 new chicks who can't be more than a day or two old and abandoned by their mom. I'm sure they all would have died if I hadn't come home last night. The chicks I took out to the other brooder are 2-3 weeks old. Not fully feathered yet and I have no heat out there but they are mostly feathered and it's not getting below 65 degrees so I hope they will be OK.
:hugsI know I always cringe when I have a vacation planned and leave it to kiddos to keep up with the chores/critters :th

What is your neighbor spraying on the other side of the fence that drifted through, is my first thought.

I ran out of irrigation heads. I only ordered 50 apparently, I needed 130.
Ordered two more bags and they'll be here Wednesday. I still need to replace all the heads in the orchard and the ones in the hoop house. The lines are already there, I just need to run new head and addition lines as I need them.
I also ran lines to each outdoor sweet potato raised pot. The mums I'll still have to water, as those get sold here and there. They are getting HUGE! More pots are coming Tuesday and I'll get them in larger pots for sale next weekend.
The tomato plant sign is finished, all but for different screws and a handle.
I weeded while I worked. I'm taking a break from being bent in half, and standing upright again.
Found a cute green frog, looks like play-doh, in the horseradish.

This is why I don’t leave home for more than a couple of days. I don’t trust the 30 something year old or her teenager to take care of my animals for very long.

No spraying... A medical clinic is on the opposite side of the fence. They do have a landscaping company that mows and cares for everything around the building but that fence abuts their parking lot. There's no landscaping between the parking lot and the fence so no spray. Also, the runoff goes to the different corner where there's a drainage pipe so no runoff either.

Gardeners I am done with the trees. I came in for a break from the heat and some pedialyte. My clothes are soaked! The vitex have late afternoon shade as they did in their old spot. I’m going to have upgrade one of them though

Added shade for the fruit trees. They’re only six feet apart so they’ll shade each other except for the one on the end

I’ve determined that weed barrier is useless for what it was intended, but it works great for repairs. When the puppies were little and could get under the bed they tore that black liner so we used weed barrier to replace it. We bought a new mattress which is being delivered today so hubs is vacuuming under the bed and getting all that done.

I’m headed out to make a cooling station for the bunnies and put some ice in a baby pool for the chicks. Then dogs get baths and I get a shower! Have a good afternoon all.
