Bantam Rhode Island Red Thread

Howdy Folks: I'm back. PC has been down for awhile.
Well; My Rhodes are 25 weeks old. They began laying early in their 24th week. Eggs weigh from 0.85 oz to 1.17 oz. These are PeeWee size. Close to the Japanese bantam eggs, and smaller than my Buff Orpington eggs which are 1.75 to 2 ounces.
Really can't determine if all 7 are laying, but I get from 1 to 4 eggs per day from them. Their egg color is a deep off white, or very light tan.
Below is Ole MacDonald. He likes to be around me, but he's a little shy. The girls are more friendly, and some love to be held and petted.

Sage I hatched them from eggs I got from Lucky Pickens in Arkansas.
Umm! Sounds interesting. I've heard tell shipped eggs for hatching can be pretty iffy. That said, as of late, my two brood Japanese bantams hatched 7 chicks out of a total of 15 eggs. That's pretty iffy too.

It sure can be. I kept records and what I got on hatch rates were
Own eggs. 93%

Close Shipping. 52%

Long Shipping (3+ days) 23%

This is considering the shipper has fresh eggs and knows how to pack em.

Alright ! You're post shows you are into this stuff just a tad.
I put my son on Lucky Pickens Farm awhile ago. It's not very far from here. His daughters are wanting some RIR's to raise. They just sold all their old production red layers.

Oh; oh. News is broadcasting tornado development just across the Arkansas border. Gonna check it out.

Oh no I loved ordering from Lucky Pickens. Was wondering if anyone here sells rir bantam chicks or hatching eggs? I have a young roo from lucky Pickens and I love him so much... But he needs some ladies because the only chicks that hatched from her eggs were Roos. Would like to have some with good lines. I am out in ca and I don't come across rir bantams for sale very often.

California; that's where I got the desire to 'one day have some RIR Bantams. I was about 14 yrs old. Dad was looking for a well trained saddle horse when we stopped by a very nice horse farm with horse barns full of stables. In one of the alley ways filled with straw, and stables on each side there was a little RIR Bantam nesting in the straw. As we approached, the bantam left its nest, and there was a tiny egg, which the owner while showing us the horses, swooped up the egg, cracked it, and swallowed the raw egg without missing stride. I was awe stricken to say the least, and that memory has always been with me.
The Pickens Farm has some nice looking Heritage RIR's, and my son informed me he'll be heading up there sometime next week.
