Blue Copper and Splash Copper Marans Discussion

OK ladies and gents....I am having a heck of a time candling my eggs. What are the lumens you are working with? Yes, I do them in a 100% dark room (at night actually) but just cannot see anything. Here are the color of the eggs, for the most part.

A couple of my BCM cockerels are making me smile BUT their hackles appear more mahogany and though its beautiful, i know its too dark. Many of my BCM hens are almost all black and I do have several with nice copper colors. Should I use the more mahogany boys over the blue and blue copper girls or not?

Thanks and many thanks to Don, Vicki for your selfless knowledge and assistance, there is so much to learn!!

Hey lady! I'm about to head back outside to the windy day, but its sunny and perfect for working in the garden. The flashlight I have is a 400 lumens flashlight I found online and it works well so far.

do you mean when hatching?
I can never see anything and I used a 21 Watt HID yesterday, Usually i can only see if the egg is full at lockdown.. just have to keep fingers crossed, smell for bad eggs and wait and see :)

Thanks Vicki, I will see if I can find one online that doesn't break the bank. I looked quickly the other day at 500 lumens and they were 65.00 and up.
