I need help trying to identify what this mass is outside the chick's body. It was malpositioned and I removed the membrane and shell so it could get out, but it has a large mass connected to its bumm. I do not know if this is unabsorbed yolk or some deformity. Please advise!!!

It kinda looks like internal organs...
Ugh, that's what I'm afraid of. I will wait for a couple other opinions before culling. Ack, this is my first hatch and I'm so squeamish. I'm hoping my DH will take pity and do it for me.

I've never seen this before despite the year and 3 month long study run for chickens. So I'm just speaking my mind when I say the brown part looks like a liver.

Here is another view, I'm not familiar with chicken anatomy but I would guess it could not survive with this outside??? I don't want this chick to suffer, should I cull it???

I think it hasn't obsorbed the yoke. Did you remove all the shell? I think it's best to leave the bottom on and let them come out of it when they're ready. Since it's getting smaller, wait and see if that's what it is.

I removed the top half of the shell and he came out on his own. It looks like there are two masses, and the larger one has flattened a bit. My gut is telling me that this is not yolk.

They do look pretty large. If you want some tips on culling, PM me. I had to cull one last fall...and when I say "I", I mean my husband. I'm sorry.
