Help! Pasty Butt

Quote:
what temps are you keeping them at now? since i use broodys I have never had to deal with this but have read alot about it, and seems overly hot can cause it too. Will they eat yogurt? plain good quality yogurt? might try mixing some in their chick feed and see if it helps. so sorry this is still going on. yogurt will help with gut issues.

If you feel your chick is doing good without antibiotics then don't start any, just watch the others for any sign of stuffiness. then you'll have to act fast.

I have the chicks in the garage.....still pretty hot here...89-90 during the day....78-80 @ night. Is it too hot....should I bring them inside? They are 2 weeks old. They won't eat yogurt, they just step in it but they have probiotic powder in their feed. I think the olive oil may have helped.....got alot of poop out of them more than you think would been in those tiny bodies.
My stuffy chick is very active today and squaked like crazy when I picked her up. Watching them like hawks with abx standing by. Hopefully my Oxine will come Monday and I'll mist with that.
Many thanks, Miss Lydia.....you are the best!

I'd say at 2 weeks those temps are about right. sounds like a plan as far as the olive oil and if you have them on probiotic powder then that should be helping too, at 2 weeks the temps should be 90* so your right at it. is it dry in your garage, what I mean is it stuffy or is their air flow? is their any mold in their? those are things you need to watch out for. Hope the oxine gets there Monday. please keep up the good work you'll be rewarded in time.

They have good airflow.....open windows and a fan on low, next to but not on top of them. No mold.....garage is pretty dry and we've had some lower humidity. I cannot thank you enough for all your love and support.....God Bless you....will stay in touch.

Another update from Disaster Central. Stuffy noses are in check, but lost another Araucana chick to BAD pasty butt. Her little hiney was bright red and big as a marble. Tried to tease out as much poop as I could and get olive oil and fluid in her. Kept her inside with me and checked on her every few hours but she just got weaker......gone around 2am.

I only have one left and she seems OK for now, except I'm starting to think she may grow up to be a he and I can't have a rooster.

I truly believe that God has a grand plan for all of us...but this part of the plan really stinks! I hate to admit it, but this is really starting to get to me.
Hopefully the next update will be better and of course, having this forum is a Godsend

I'm sure this is wearing you down, Have you been in the archives reading about pasty butt and all the ways to get it under control? I do no another sourse on our N.C. thread said he puts Oatmeal in his chicks feed and it's suppose to help along with sand, but your already doing the sand. I sure wish i had an answer for you. I will say that I have been praying for you and your little ones. Hang in there it's got to get better.

Thanks for all your support and prayers.....I think I got to the point of thinking how many things can you try....there's also molasses water and I heard about baking soda in water.....have oatmeal so I'll try it. Chick looks good today and has some normal poop. I know getting these Araucanas started can be tough, after all having the gene for the tufts is fatal to begin with! I think they have a pretty delicate constitution but I'm hanging in there and thinking about trying another round of eggs
