I am facing needing to get rid of my 27 chickens, and am debating on if I want to try to fight to change the ordinance, or if I will just surrender peacefully. Please tell me... have you tried to change any local ordinances, and what was the outcome? I'm really interested in finding out if all of the hard work has been paying off for the rest of you before I put my heart on the line with this.

Basically, what I found out yesterday, is that here in the town of Southport, NY, even though I live in an agriculturally zoned area, I cannot have chickens unless I have 10 acres of land, and a 150 ft setback to the property. Yes, I said TEN acres. The law is written so that it pertains to all livestock, which includes chickens and other poultry. I received notification today 9/5/14, and have until the 15th to get rid of my chickens or I could face big fines or even jail time.
