HE JUST SHOWED UP!!

Sorry for your loss.  Just thinking out loud.  You saw no sign of disease?  Australorps are listed as cold hardy, but wondering, did he sleep with others perched along side him to help keep him warm or was he alone at night?  Could that have affected him?

Nope he was up with the rest. I can't explain what happened. He didn't sleep under the heat lamp, that's just where I found him. I did one night see him sleeping in with my duck that has gone broody. But when he sees me he comes running and talking in that sexy deep voice of his. I love that voice. He never did crow,,

Just read this whole thread. I'm sorry he's gone. I have to say I had a very sweet Polish roo about 2 years old and this summer one morning he just flipped over and died! No reason at all, I saw it happen, there was nothing near him. Sometimes you just don't know. I don't think it was your care.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear he's gone.

I am so thankful, though, that for the last part of his life he was loved and looked after so well.

I'm terribly sorry for your loss.

I know I'm so devasted and yet at a lost. He was sooo big, much bigger then anything I have now. LOL my biggest chicken now is my Phoenix and he's kind of small.

Perhaps you will now need to go out and get some bigger chickens. Just seven or eight or so.

You know. To remember and honour him by.......

In all seriousness though, I am very sorry. It's always sad to lose one of the family, and he had so much spunk.
