Yes, the combs grow way faster. I also have had a couple of Leghorn pullets that managed to actually pink up their combs WAY before they started to lay, so that I was convinced that they were male.
We so live in Alaska... I heard an eagle call, and all kids ran out enmass to make sure all livestock were safe. They were safe.
My first set of chicks, that I have almost THIRTY leftover unsold chicks
are outside in a chicken tractor. They looked cold, so they have two heat lamps. Their water was slightly frozen the other day.
Anyway, they are doing OK. At least they figured out how to get in and out of the warmed box to reach the food and water and back again.
Luckily, we did well enough with goat milk selection, that we get about a gallon a day, from two does, and they were cheap.
