Bama, give it time, and try the advice my daughter gave me. The first smart phone they came out with was an iPhone. Dh ran and got us one. On day 3, I was standing on the balcony of our apartment, ready to throw it into the lake. I was ready to cry. I couldn't figure out how to use the thing. I could answer a call, if someone called me, and that was it. Later that evening, I was almost in tears. I wanted to make a call, and couldn't figure out how to do it. My daughter showed me how, BUT she told me something that made a world of difference. She told me to go on my computer, and google anything I wanted to do on my phone, and there would be videos. Just do as they said, and I would soon learn how to use my phone. She told me that's how she learned to use her iPhone. Who knew, right? Another thing I did, after I was a little more familiar with my phone, was to google the settings, and set my preferences into my phone. That made a big difference too.

Hi all! Been lurking on and off this morning. Trying to get a fence around the pool started, got an insurance guy coming to inspect next week. Been trying to convince hubs since last August that even with above ground, you gotta fence it. Turns out it's a federal law, not just state to state, and not just within municipalities. He's just a little stubborn.

Having said that, its kinda hard watching him make the transition from his old dinosaur flip phone to the start up level smartphone I bought for him last week. He's been paying for a data plan that he's never used, and asking me to" look this up on the Google " for almost 2 years. That's alot of wasted data minutes. Started teaching him on my phone last year, but it's almost painful to hear him beeotch about how hard it is to use the nice gift I bought for him. :duc
I must admit, I wouldn't find some of the new phones I've seen easy to work out.

Whatever issues he's having with his smartphone...my 90 year old mother has it in spades with hers :lau It's taken me 2 years to convince her to go back to a landline, that kind of phone she's had years of experience with. And a landline is a lot harder to lose than the 5 or so smartphones she's lost.

You're right Shad! I probably only use a fraction of the capabilities on mine but that's all I need.
I get the impression that is how most people use their phones. Some of them can do an awful lot of clever stuff. It's a bit like computers for the home; the technology isn't really used and many operating systems and applications could be made so much simpler.
The manufacturers approach seems to be, cram it with every feature they can but I bet only a small proportion of those features get used.

Thank you for the reassurance GAC! The thing is, he wont get near a computer! The phone is a huge concession on his part. He wont touch my laptop, even though I tell him all the time that mammals who don't evolve to change are doomed to become roadkill.

They aren't easy to use, even the simple ones. But we are always finding coupons or discounts to get cheaper prices, road maps to find our way around, things that require my presence, when I may have other things to do. I'm just trying to empower him. You'd think I was asking him to donate a testicle.

I really do understand: I used a company flipphone up until 2015 when I moved to this area and took a different job. A friend gave me an apple iPhone that I had no clue how to use, I had no access to wifi either. Was very frustrated for quite a while. Guess the answer is, give it time.
