My son rescued this pup from the neighbor. He's been outside in the heat, no food or water, left to sleep under the trailer and no one has been home for days. There are shut off notices for the electricity and past due tax bills from the county. Poor little guy. They named him Finley.

Cute dog, glad your son took him in!

Sheesh I couldn't touch my broody when she was on the nest. I made sure to verify she got off the nest every day to eat and poop and she'd have a dust bath. I never had to encourage her, she just did it thankfully.

I had to take one of the babies and clean its bottom due to pasty butt and she came unglued every time I walked by and tried to attack me for about the next week. We were friends again when there were no chicks to come between us though.

Barb never did anything but an excellent turkey impersonation and a whole lot of clucking at me. I handled the chicks immediately and she let me.
Now, if I was a pullet, they boy howdy! Watch out! She'd tear me up.
I also saw her fly feet first at the little cockerel while he ran shrieking for the chicken bush.

Wow that is awesome!! Our fridge is scratchy and dent too. We got it I think last year so not too old yet. But it has one little dent on the side/corner of the door. You can’t even see it from the front of the fridge. But we got it way reduced from I think Lowe’s. It was like a 2 or maybe even 3K fridge but we got it for waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy less than that. I forget the exact price but way way less. It’s amazing what people will waste or return or not want. It’s so stupid. I think it maybe got dented on installation or something and they returned it. So dumb. We figure, it WILL get dented or scratched eventually anyway so why worry about it!?

Also I know I need to stop meddling with her but I wanted to see if there were any new eggs under her and went to take some and she got up again when I reached under but did go right back after she ate a bit but she seems to be refusing to move to the middle nest. I put the eggs there and she just walks around clucking until I put them back. So I guess she is gonna stay in the far right nest. She’s super serious when she’s in that nest. Maybe she would move if I left the eggs in the middle nest, I don’t give her long to decide, but I think it’s just easier if I let her stay where she wants to stay haha she is very insistent and persuasive about staying in that nest.

Also.... do I just leave her alone and not open the nest boxes for a few days? She only moves when I reach under her but I don’t want to disturb her too much so I guess I shouldn’t collect eggs? They’re barely laying anyway. I think she is scaring them :lau

But I also don’t want her to starve or dehydrate.

Do I just leave her and let her get up on her own or should I force her to get up once a day? I am assuming she won’t let herself starve?
Most hens will get off the nest once a day to eat, drink, poop and dust bath.
Some hens you need to physically take off the nest, or they become weak and parasite infested. Basically, you need to check and act accordingly.
If you do take her off the nest you need to make sure she comes out of the broody trance and moves around. Sometimes when you lift them off the eggs they just stay in the trance, squatting on the ground, partially wake and go straight back to their eggs. You need to make sure this doesn't happen.
Mark the eggs she already has and remove any that her friends contribute.;)
