BYC Café

Aren’t shots required by law? I get not being able to afford actual vet visits/fees every time... ours charges like $60+ just for the office visit, before they even do anything, alone the price of the shots and stuff. So for multiple dogs I get it. But there are cheap mobile clinics for shots and spay and neuter and most pet and feed stores have vaccine clinics for cheap every weekend or some places you can even buy the shots yourselves. There are ways. I don’t think every pet necessarily has to be spayed and neutered as long as they are under control/contained and kept from breeding and I get not being able to afford emergency vet care, it’s crazy expensive, but some stuff like shots and food should just be basic care...

Good Morning all! Sunshine here in north Texas! Such a nice change over the last few weeks. Still will need a few days to dry out a bit, so I'll still be cleaning dirty floors from the foot traffic. The girls will get some time in their alternate yard I move around the garden. Their egg production has slowed down and one has not laid in a week, so hopefully all the warm sunshine will put things back into motion.
Coffee is good today!

We had fog again but should have some sun today

We are basically vegetarian but... just reading these posts has me thinking that right now. I wish I had some too. So...

Off to the proverbial concrete commercial garden fields of a major- natural-food-chain-store I must go, again. Darn it. Can't let my overworked-backaching-tired-spouse rest for one good moment this week - gotta' get more meat. (Seems the times and the menus at my house are a-changing.) Seriously, somebody pray for me quickly or I may purchase an entire cow.
Home raised beef is so good!

Usually antibiotics are given to prevent sepsis.
I wonder if that is effective though. I read an article that said the one drug that helped with sepsis was pulled and that nothing else worked.

It kills a lot of older people because of that. Sadly I think that anti biotics are given more to calm the owners by vets.

It is shocking how much anti biotics are given to chickens at the drop of a hat!

Neuturing pets is more for their health. You risk higher chances of cancer if you don't. Plus unwanted litters.

I think every pet should be neutured because people just let their pets that are not neutured go outside then they have more animals they can't afford or find homes for.

We just had a stray cat here that was in heat and it sounded awful! I don't know where it was, but I honestly wanted to catch it and bring it to the vet for a spay. Sounded like something dying in a horror movie 😂

I bring my dogs to those clinics at tractor supply sometimes, it depends on when they are but I bring them to the normal vet for the annual exams. It's not really cheaper to go to tractor supply or those clinics because my vet has pretty competitive prices.

I can't take any antibiotics because most cause anaphylaxis.

I have never given my chickens antibiotics because I've never needed to. I am giving the chicks medicated feed because that's all that was available, I think the purpose of medicated feed is mute.

I used to laugh because any time someone's chicken was sick (not laughing at the sick chicken) everyone would say to pump it up with antibiotics. I stopped replying to those threads because I don't feel like antibiotics are ever a good solution. They wipe out everything good and bad and it's hard to recover from them.

rabbies is required here. They have to be given by a vet or clinic.
