A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

We had much colder than normal weather for a week and now it's in the 70's. Warmer than normal. Had thunderstorms yesterday. Weird weather.

Went for a stroll yesterday evening with the girls. They went right to the spot they saw the cat. So now I have a coonhound hunting possums and turkeys hunting cats....

Ice storm, Sub-Zero,50f, mud, flooding, ice storm, zero all in a week
almost a month with some kind of precipitation every day.:barnieNo end in sight to the roller coaster

Since Sunday Hawks have been desperate with the snow cover. Usually they leave the chickens alone. They hit one but I got there in time and she recovered

Wait... what? I thought “Banana Belt” was OUR exclusive moniker! (Eight below now, 6:00 pm. Not promising. Going to go give the chickens some BOSS.)
It was 52°F here on Sunday. This morning it is currently -18°F.

A neighbor stopped by the other day and told me his cottonwood was budding out. My response was that it was going to die. We had a January thaw and a brief February thaw and now we have sub zero temperatures. This is tree killing weather.

Was it the chicken or hawk that recovered?

I have some maples that started to bud out in the 40 degree temps. I am hoping they will just be set back and have to re-bud in June when it finally thaws.

I wonder if this will affect the taste of the sap?

Low last night was -24, so not as bad as it could have been, but considerably colder than NOAA predictions. Being the incredibly talented weather person that I am (IOW, pessimistic re govt prognostications) this did not surprise. :p

The chickens are way tougher than me. I did the unthinkable and hung an evil heat lamp from the ridge support, but I think they would have been fine in any case. DH was worried about them. He’d have been even more worried about the heat lamp tho, so shhh! It’s now -3 and windy as... um, heckfire. (Only colder of course.)
