A century of Turkey talk 2000-2100.

that looks so much like the Ice Storm that hit Oklahoma 10 years ago, this winter is not even fun for me, i wish i had snow out here, its been cold, and wet, no ice, and no snow, and i love the snow, guess thats the kid in me that likes the snow.
I'm also eagerly awaiting spring so i can start filling my incubator with turkey, and guinea eggs (and a few eggs that will be future offspring of my blue laced red rooster)

So now I've had my snow fix for the year!!

Yeahhh... so have I...

I think kids and young-uns love snow because they’re not tired-out yet. :gigI have been thinking I should just decide to love winter, but I keep forgetting to do it—and besides that, I think it may be time for a nap.

Heh - I had my fill of snow before the first flake fell. Just the thought is enough to make me growl. Slopping through mud, ice, snow or a mixture of all 3 for days on end - is a pain in the patootie. Always checking for frozen water buckets, empty feeders and keeping birds entertained enough to not eat each other is a common downside. Just the chore of dragging my hose inside (100 feet) so it won't be frozen when I need it - is sometimes daunting.

Even at this very moment, it's 32 degrees outside (sorry @R2elk since that is a heatwave out your way), freezing rain is STILL falling - yet nothing is melting. Sadly, winter hasn't even really started yet!!

I also realize that the cold is beneficial for other reasons (nature busy at knocking down insects, preparing seeds for spring, etc), so I deal with it KNOWING Spring will get here - eventually. Therefore, I literally and reluctantly "hunker down" for the duration. I (grrrr) have no choice but to wait it out. The sub-zero temps and the feet of snow will show up regardless of whether I want it or not.

One of my sisters has a "summer house" in New Smyrna Beach Fl. She told me I could go down and stay from Jan - April for free. Unfortunately, I would need a big rig to cart the gang with me and I'm pretty sure I'd get arrested at one state border or the other.

Makes hunkering down seem like a cakewalk.

It's sunny and 32°F here, but the wind is blowing. We don't get ice storms or freezing rain. Because of the high winds, we get sublimation which is the passing of water directly from a solid phase (snow, ice) into a vapor. That and living on a sand dune removes the need to deal with mud.

I live on a mountain ridge between two mountains - and it's full of rocks (shale and granite complete with fossils). Even here, most of my place does NOT have mud and I can drive my truck around and not fear getting stuck. However, there are a couple of places - the old little run that goes directly into the chicken barn and the sidegrade from the driveway to the run - will get mud two feet deep. All I can figure is that area (at some point when the prior house was first built) had excess dirt hauled in, probably to make a yard with real grass.

It didn’t this year... not here anyway.

That does make New Smyrna Beach look like an exceptionally better option. lol

I do agree that winter can hang on and on.....and on, complete with a blizzard. I've had 3 to 4-foot snowfalls in April and early May - but by then I am convinced Spring is only a week or two away! As a kid growing up in central MD, we once had snow on the 31st of May and the 1st of June.
Horrible timing for equally horrible stuff.
