Just curious what all you folks are finding where you're from.
I found the mother of all free things yesterday. Went to municipal recycle day in my brothers town as he needed to borrow my truck. Once we got inside, sitting next to the car batteries and junked lawnmowers was a Jonsered 2149 Turbo W 16" chainsaw. The thing looked almost new. Gave it a quick lookover, all parts there, nothing obviously broken. Happened to have my saw wrench in the truck so I pulled the spark plug and clutch cover and everything there looked to be in order. Turned it over with spark plug out and it had pretty blue sparks! Replaced SP, Slowly pulled starter cord and it appeared to have compression. (Getting really excited now!) Pulled the gas cap and it smelled like really old gas. Not seeing any signs prohibiting salvage of recycle items, I promptly put it in the back of my truck.
Got home, flushed the fuel and oil tank with some fresh gas, splashed a little in the carb, pulled the starter and it fired on one pull! I was almost giddy. A few more pulls and some file work on the chain and I was cutting wood with my new light saw. Can't believe somebody discarded this one. These saws sold for $400-500 back in 2005. Great little saw. Light and snappy. Sometimes helping out a family member pays off!
Now I have 3 chainsaws, and I only need 2. Nice problem to have. Will have to do some horse trading. Also dragged home a Lawn Boy 2 stroke mower (work better on my steep ditch than 4 stroke). I think it will live again but needs more work than saw.
