Chicken Breed Focus - Welsummer

Pics
I have two Welbars - depending on who you ask they are a sub-type of Welsummer or a different breed.
Basically they are Welsummers with a barring gene.

Here is Bernie who looks very Welsummer.

And here is Sylvie who apparently didn’t read the SOP!

Sylvie may not meet the SOP but she is still very striking looking. She reminds me a bit of a ptarmigan.

Yes! I just looked up pictures of ptarmigan and you are right, she does look a bit like them.
I think she is gorgeous and really don't care about the SOP!
I sent a picture of her to the breeder and he was quite surprised at her looks, and for a moment I thought he was going to ask to get her back so he could breed her.
I think she is just some kind of anomaly.
She lays a nice dark brown egg just like Bernie does (actually hard to tell who lays which egg), so I do think she actually is a Welbar.

I got chickens because I moved to an area of the country that has ticks - from one that does not. But one of the things I have learned to admire about them (mostly from my time here on BYC) - is the infinite variety among them! And honestly, I don't think I've ever seen an ugly one, even among the most unique. In fact, the more original they are, the more eye-catching they seem. Your Sylvie is a great example. There may not be another like her. :love

In case you're not just joking, and I can't speak from experience as I haven't confined mine, but the Swedish Flower is one of the breeds that is commonly said to do poorly if confined. They probably get depressed and bored, and then may go on to exhibit various bad behaviours like pacing, feather pecking, aggression etc.

Thank you. I was being a bit silly, but yes, I was wondering if they get aggressive toward their flockmates.
