I got this barred Plymouth Rock, that we thought was a hen, but now we aren't so sure.

In the last picture, that's the other one. She has less stripes.

I bought 3 pullets from a co-worker and returned one as I think it is cockerel. Huge legs, long tail, start of fluffy hackle feathers. Just doesn't have that cute little rumpy butt of hens.

What do you think?

Did it have kind of pointed feathers on its back towards the back of its body? If that makes any since. Also, what breed is it?

How old is the bird in these photos? Age will play heavily into the characteristics that could indicate cockerel or pullet based on these photos.

Bird in question does have pointy feathers on the hackle that are tipped with green. They also blow up a bit in the slightest of wind and a bit soft/curly. It is supposed to be a Production RIR. Guessing at age but about 40+ weeks. This bird is huge and has a very long neck. Jumbo fat legs compared to my pullets, wide stance and legs have slight feathers on them. It makes a deep noise when startled. When I see it run it reminds me of a game cock profile - muscular legs, long and low to the ground, bow legged looking from the rear (you can see right through - no rump of a pullet to speak of).

Is that a typo, or are the photos above are of a bird you are guessing to be 40+ weeks and show the bird as it is now or were these taken some time previous?
