I usually post in the emergencies threads so I thought I should branch out a little and share a rehoming success story with you.

I have a broody hen Lillith who has had three clutches of chicks in the last year. Her most recent were two bantam orpingtons, a chocolate pullet called Yinny and a lavender cockerel called Yanga.

We can’t have roosters in my municipality. We’ve had to dispatch some and I’ve had success rehoming others. Yanga was showing himself to be such a respectful boy that I knew I had to find him a good home.

I put an ad on Gumtree and a lady in Gippsland (rural region east of Melbourne) who lives on a farm and shows poultry just happened to be looking exactly for a lavender bantam Orpington.

I made the trip out there and met this lovely woman who showed me all around her farm, showed me the coops and her sheep and miniature cows… she even had one of those special white livestock protection dogs. Everything was so clean, well organised and maintained and all her birds looked healthy and content.

So Yanga has gone to be the founding father of her next breeding/showing project!

Here are some pictures of beautiful Yanga. We used to sit together and I would give him face and neck scritches and he would zen out. I miss him but I’m so happy he’s gone to the perfect home.

Beautiful bird! :love It's always refreshing when we find homes for our boys, roosters can be difficult to rehome. Glad you found him a loving home! ❤
