It is Chinese. That is all I can tell you. If you would like, I can show these pictures to my friends in Beijing and ask them to ask their parents.I got this from my grandmother many years ago. Anybody know anything about such a tin box? It's about 3x4x2.

Here is what I have found so far: It is from the 1920s, it is made of bronze, and it was used for trinkets and jewelry. It was a very popular item at street markets, but production ended when Japan invaded China in 1931.I got this from my grandmother many years ago. Anybody know anything about such a tin box? Thank you! Now that I uploaded some pictures I did a google image search. It's looking like a Japanese tobacco box from the early 1900's. Sure enough, it has a "made in japan" on the bottom that I had never noticed before.My apologies. It is Japanese. I misread 2 of the characters on it.
