August 2023 hatch-a-long

Finally a keet that looks pearl gray! Dad = pied (pearl+white) and mom could be any of my 3 hens: 2 p.g. or the one lavender.

Wow the twins look so cool, I hope somehow they make it through hatching!

I ended up getting 4 muscovy eggs. One seems different from the other three. The aircell is a bit larger and off to the side a bit, and it has greyish streaks towards the pointy end. Not sure if that means anything since I've never candled duck eggs before and I don't know what normal looks like... Sooo, I'll just let them sit overnight in case the air cell moves back up and start incubating in the morning.
That's normal for a muscovy egg

Still day 19 here, think day 20 starts in like 6 hrs?

I have 4 chicks hatched, which surprised me a bit when I woke up since I went to bed about 6 hr ago and had 1 chick and 2 pips, one was close to zipping so expected that chick. The other one that was pipped still hasn't hatched. The other 2 unless I missed where they were pipped weren't even pipped yet 6 hrs ago. lol. One is still wet other is partially dry.

Then I have 4 more pipped. And 4 doing nothing yet which made me nervous but guess shouldn't since it isn't quite day 20. Lol

2 are from my EE hen and one of my Cochin Roos.

The other 2 are CCL. One girl and the one still wet is a bit hard to tell but may be male.

one more has pipped so only 3 left to go. I need to go to work. :( hopefully come home to lots more babies in there! But sad I am missing all the hatches! LOL

When I get home I need to move the 2 week olds to the outside brooder (need to reset that up since I had cleaned it out after the last batch) and redo the inside brooder so that the new ones can go in. I would keep them in there together for now but the heat on the MHP is low for the 2 week olds and I like the new babies to really have their legs before I mix them. LOL
